Zuikiel's parents had three children: a son Eldriel, Zuikiel, and a younger daughter Aspharel. While all three were born with the preferred coloring, Eldriel had sandy blond hair and duller eyes, Zuikiel had darker gray wings, and Aspharel was the lightest and brightest. Their father, who was a professor of mathematics was strict with their educations and grades. Eldriel showed promise in the Sciences and followed Firiel into the teaching field. Meanwhile their mother Lumiel, a seamstress, originally trained Zuikiel to take over her shop. With the birth of Aspharel however, changed who would take over as she believed a more favorable appearance would draw more customers.
From the time she was little, Zuikiel has battle a slight case of kleptomania, with episodes normally brought on by stress. It resides more as just a need to take things, not necessarily to steal, and she can normally abate the urges by picking flowers along the street or taking pens/pencil/hair-ties, anything small that people don't notice as missing and doesn't cause any harm.
This is how she met her best friend Erimiel, in school. They had been sat next to each other, and when she had not been looking, Zuikiel had taken one of Erimiel's pencils. Erimiel's reaction to it had been to hit her, but when the teacher had asked what had happened to make Zuikiel cry neither girl had wanted to get in trouble so they hadn't told on the other. The two had formed a quiet friendship/truce, with both just sitting silently next to each other, the only disturbances being when Zuikiel would take something of Erimiel's, and the retaliating smack.
Zuikiel eventually decided to still become a seamstress, but instead decided to work for herself and opened her own shop. She alternated between living at her shop in the city or with Erimiel in the country in month long increments. During her time in the city was when she conducted her business; taking orders and measurements, making alterations, ordering fabrics and sewing materials, doing Eri's chores, etc. She was quickly starting to compete with her family's shop, which (while she would never tell them) was bringing her a small pleasure.
One night, a small child, very obviously recently exiled, stopped by the house. Despite Zuikiel's fears, she agreed to help the child before sending it on farther. Seeing how her friend felt about the mistreatment when faced with it, Zuikiel agreed to leave with her, figuring that she would not last on her own without Erimiel there to help her curb her kleptomania. As Eri wrote the article on it, she made one last trip into town, stocking them with things they would need for the trip. Cutting their hair, the two set out for the closest rogue outpost. As she has traveled and interacted with Equim she has started to develop a soft spot for the crazy, loud, and emotional race so different from her own.
